Living Our Core Values

When our practice operates and lives with the core values we’ve established, we know we are operating in a way that best supports our patients, our team, and our community.

Core Values

CoreValue Transformational

Transformational

We never settle! We constantly challenge our ideas of what’s possible to better meet the needs of our patients and team. Positive, professional relationships are key to delivering results, and we’re always developing, testing, and refining our processes to ensure a truly transformational experience for everyone we serve.

Putting Our Transformational Value into Action:

Patient

Our doctors set a vision centered on exceptional patient care. With staff managing all other aspects of the business, our doctors can concentrate fully on each patient, providing customized care that meets their unique needs.

Team

Each year we hold an offsite staff retreat to focus on strengthening our shared goals, identifying opportunities for professional development, and engage in team building activities.

Community Impact

Each month, we provide a free exam and a free pair of glasses to two teens through the Billings Tumbleweed program. In 2016, Bauer & Clausen Optometry was honored to be recognized by Tumbleweed as the Health & Wellness Partner of the Year.

CoreValue Strategy

Strategic

Our decisions are driven by data and common cause, not special cause. We measure our effectiveness using quantifiable metrics and observable outcomes, and we believe in transparency—keeping employees informed about how their contributions drive results. This strategic approach ensures that every decision serves both our patients and our team effectively.

Putting Our Strategic Value into Action:

Patient

Our entire team is always looking for ways to better serve our patients by actively listening to patient feedback, bringing in outside training, and striving to improve our day-to-day practices.

Team

We teach our team to think strategically. Each team member meets regularly with their team leader who encourages them to share ideas and helps them implement new plans to move the practice forward.

Community Impact

Bauer & Clausen Optometry is proud to support AMIGOS Eye Care by facilitating the donation of eyeglasses our patients no longer need or use. AMIGOS Eye Care is a non-profit affiliated with Pacific University College of Optometry with a mission to provide quality vision care at no cost to underserved communities. Donated glasses are repurposed and given free-of-charge to people in need in Portland and around the globe.

CoreValue Growth Mindset

Committed to a Growth Mindset

We embrace change because we know that continuous evolution and improvement are essential. We think big, push boundaries, and learn from every experience. Our belief in open communication and shared feedback at all levels makes every team member coachable and capable of growth.

Putting Growth Mindset Values into Action:

Patient
Patient education is an important aspect of our practice. We provide information throughout the exam to help patients understand their eye health and any issues they may have.

Team
We encourage our team to continuously gain new knowledge and skills by investing in training and professional development. Many staff members earn certifications (through studying and completing an exam) for their respective positions. Some have participated in outside development such as Leadership Billings.

CoreValue Champions

Champions

Our team is our greatest asset, and every member is a champion. We empower our employees to take charge of their own success, be accountable, and be solution oriented. We support growth and the acquisition of new skills and knowledge, benefitting us all personally and professionally.

Putting Champions Values into Action:

Patients

We are champions for our patients by continuously moving the practice forward by embracing new technology, best practices, and an unwavering commitment to an excellent patient experience.

Team

Each month our staff selects one employee to be recognized for going above and beyond in embodying our company’s core values.

Community Impact

At the end of the year, staff selects one of the twelve monthly core value honorees for recognition as the Annual Core Value Honoree. That individual receives a $500 check plus a second $500 check to donate to a local non-profit organization of their choice.
