At Bauer & Clausen Optometry, we’ve designed our eye examination process to be exceptional from start to finish. With every appointment, our goal is to thoroughly assess your vision, determine if any vision correction is needed, and evaluate the overall health of your eyes. Our eye doctors are committed to making your visit both comprehensive and comfortable.
Exceptional
from Start to Finish
We follow a four-step process to ensure your eye care is
thorough, personalized and comfortable.
Discover
Learn More about You.
Our first step is getting to know you and your specific needs. We ask tailored questions about your medications, overall health, and any concerns you might have about your vision. We also discuss your visual demands—the types of tasks you perform daily, like computer use, outdoor work, sports, or hobbies like knitting and fly-tying.
Evaluate
Evaluate Your Visual System.
We employ a variety of techniques to assess how well you see and how effectively your eyes work both independently and together. This evaluation includes checking eye movement control, peripheral vision, pupil functionality, eye alignment, and identifying any color deficiencies.
Determine
Determine Vision Correction.
This step, called a “refraction,” involves assessing your need for vision correction. Our doctors will ask you to view an eye chart while making adjustments to determine which letters are clearer. Additional measurements may also be taken to ensure accurate results and to determine whether you need glasses or other corrective options.
Focus
Focus on your Eye Health
Good vision starts with healthy eyes. Our doctors thoroughly examine both the front surface of your eye and the retina at the back. This comprehensive check helps identify potential concerns such as dryness, infections, cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. They also screen for other health conditions like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes.
Still wondering what to expect?
Optomap Imaging & Pupil Dilation
If you’ve had a comprehensive eye exam before, you might recall having drops placed in your eyes to dilate your pupils. Traditionally, this was the only way eye doctors could thoroughly evaluate the retina. However, advances in technology have expanded these options. At Bauer & Clausen Optometry, we have chosen to make those advanced options available to our patients when appropriate.
